1. Our Commitment

Dog Surgery Veterinary Hospital is committed to making our website usable by people of all abilities. We design and build this site to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, and we test it against the most common assistive technologies used by dog owners across the Brandywine Valley.

2. Measures We Take

  • Semantic HTML with proper heading hierarchy on every page (a single H1, then H2s and H3s in order).
  • Descriptive alt text on every content image, written to convey meaning rather than literal detail.
  • Sufficient color contrast between text and background across light and dark themes.
  • Keyboard-navigable interactive elements: every link, button, and form field is reachable and operable without a mouse.
  • Visible focus indicators on all focusable elements, including the skip-to-content link at the top of every page.
  • Form fields paired with visible labels, inline error messages, and clear required-field indicators.
  • No content that flashes more than three times per second, and no auto-playing audio or video.
  • Reduced-motion support for visitors who have set the "reduce motion" preference on their device.

3. Known Limitations

While we work to maintain full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance, we are aware of the following areas where the site may not yet meet every guideline:

  • Some embedded third-party maps are not fully keyboard navigable. A text-based address is always provided alongside any map.
  • Older PDF documents, if linked from the site, may not be fully tagged for screen-reader use. We are auditing these and adding accessible replacements where needed.
  • Some long-form guides include complex tables; we are progressively adding captions and scope attributes.

4. Assistive Technologies Tested

We regularly test the site with the following tools and configurations:

  • Screen readers: NVDA on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, TalkBack on Android.
  • Browser zoom up to 200% without horizontal scrolling.
  • Keyboard-only navigation across desktop and mobile breakpoints.
  • Windows High Contrast mode and platform dark-mode preferences.

We aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback within two business days and to propose a fix or alternative format within ten business days.

We review this statement quarterly and update it whenever we make a material change to the site. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
